Health Occupations Students of America, 2nd and 4th Tuesdays
Adviser: Cynthia Wong
Room: Cafeteria
HOSA will be hosting a guest speaker from the Vitalant Blood Center.
“They’ll be talking about our upcoming blood drive and encouraging members to get involved,” President William Deng said. “It’s a great opportunity for everyone to understand the impact of donating blood and how they can make a difference. The energy is always positive when there’s a sense of purpose, and tomorrow’s meeting has plenty of that.”
Members will also be preparing for the upcoming State Leadership Conference in March.
“Right now, our members are in the thick of figuring out which events they’ll compete in, and we’re making solid progress,” Deng said. “We’re reviewing guidelines, practicing our skills, and ensuring everyone feels confident about their choices. It’s exciting to see how motivated everyone is, and I can feel the energy building as we get closer to the competition.”
Dungeons and Dragons, 2nd and 4th Wednesdays
Adviser: Levi Harbeson
Room: E126
Dungeons and Dragons will be allowing members to start playing the game.
“The campaigns are just getting started up right now, and so everyone’s still doing all their story setting and background changing so that they can have their characters fully fleshed out,” president Andrew Bennett said. “The Dungeon Masters are working on their stories so that the players understand the world that they’re in. It’s just gonna be a game day.”
Previous meeting success has the board hopeful for member involvement and excitement.
“I know, personally in my campaign, everyone is itching to get started because we’ve had a lot of absences,” Bennett said. “So we haven’t been able to get started with the story and so we’re all really excited to just get going and start playing the game that the Game Master has set up.”
Speech and Debate, 2nd and 4th Tuesdays
Adviser: Henry Evans
Room: Library
After the club’s success in the October Tournament, Speech and Debate board members plan to host a small ceremony to celebrate members who competed and won.
“We had over forty members compete in the October tournament, and we did so well,” president Victor Pedzik said. “To me it doesn’t matter if [they] win or lose. As long as they compete, they are a valuable member of the team and we really want to celebrate that. With the ceremony, we hope to foster team spirit and have everyone view themselves as a team, not just individual competitors.
Members will also begin preparing for the November tournament.
“The November tournament is a speech only competition,” Pedzik said. “So, we need to prepare those that are used to doing debate categories. We’re going to be hosting workshops starting this week and within the next few meetings. The October tournament was great for letting people get used to competing, so we’re expecting more participation for this month’s competition.”
