To increase connectivity between clubs, Student Council is holding their annual “Friendsgiving,” a Thanksgiving-style event at which representatives from all clubs are invited to socialize.
“We do it to connect with the clubs and create a more secure sense of community in our school to bring everyone together,” Student Body Secretary Adalyn McShane said. “Our goal is to give students a break from the school setting, create positive memories, and have everyone create new friends.”
StuCo is trying to improve it this year to make it more enjoyable for the clubs and a learning experience as well.
“We’re trying to implement resources that we can get to the [representatives] so they can take it back to their clubs and not just have it as an experience for those three members, but something [for them all],” Student Body President Sophia Lehnerd said. “Even for the smaller clubs who may need some help with fundraising or different things, we’re gonna be making a resource packet for them so that they can have it and take what they need from it.”
Figuring out where to hold the event this year proved tricky as they had to consider the acoustics and the environment to ensure everyone could enjoy Friendsgiving.
“Our SBOs (Student Body Officers) thought it was more formal to hold it in [the ballroom],” Sophomore Class Representative Danniel James Madamba said. “It’s quieter, unlike in the cafeteria, which had a whole lot more echo and was overall not the best place to hold it.”
Food will be provided at the event for all attendees giving them multiple options of what they would like to indulge in.
“We are catering Meraki, a Greek grill,” Lehnerd said. “We have a student in Student Council who works at Meraki, so we are able to do it through her. [Meraki] also provides options for people who are vegan.”
A representative planning to attend the event shared their enthusiasm about the opportunity to build stronger relationships with other clubs on campus.
“I’m hoping that there’s [going to be] a lot of fun [activities] that we can do and just have a good time with everybody,” Trading Card Club Vice President MinJin Oh said. “I’m excited about meeting new people and I’m hoping that we can connect more with other clubs and their representatives.”
