Returning this year, Student Council’s Pie-A-Palooza event is set to take place on Thursday, February 6th in the gym from 2-4p.m. They will only be accepting cash for bids to pie people.
Taking inspiration from the Senior Class of 2025, this event was prepared by the Junior Class in efforts to raise money for prom.
“It’s where staff and club presidents are invited to join us in getting pied,” junior class Vice President Siena Suarez said. “The junior class is getting really excited, and we just need more funds to help make prom the best for everybody.”
Buyers will have to follow a series of rules and regulations to attend the event to maintain the safety of the students and teachers involved.
“We’re using the same rules that were used last year,” Suarez said. “There are rules against aggressive pieing, such as having to stand back to avoid any violence. We really want them to pie with no aggression.”
Prices to pie students and teachers differ between a starting price of $3 or the opportunity to bid.
“There are certain people who will only be bidded on,” junior class DA Senator Sapphyre-Ann Leung said. “They will only be pied once by the person who bids the most money. Everyone else can be pied multiple times in a five minute time span by anyone.”
Though only teachers had been pied in previous years, this year’s Pie-A-Palooza differs from that standard as students representing different clubs and organizations being pied as well.
“I’m pretty excited,” HOSA President William Deng said. “I’m gonna be happy to contribute to our school’s funds and our prom. I’d love to sit alongside my teachers, especially those who gave me a little extra homework and see them get pied in the face.”
Many teachers participating in previous years will be returning to be a part of the event this year, with some even excited to return.
“I have been pied every year since I’ve been here,” English teacher Maritza De La Fuente said. “This year is gonna be my fourth or fifth time and it’s just a fun thing that we like to do for the kids. I’m hoping that more kids show up and that they get to pie us.”
The event will consist of nine members of the staff and seven students in positions of leadership getting pied in the face.
“It’s just a really cool event to see,” SBO President Sophia Lehnerd said. “It’s a way for the community to come together for a cute fundraising event and for sillier purposes, where teachers and students get to be pied for entertainment and to raise funds.”
