Hoping to make the school a little more positive, Student Council is decorating the quad with kindness rocks.
“We are creating them to add a pop of color and kind messages throughout the school,” junior Rachel Gehlen, leader of Student Council’s positive vibes committee, said. “The vivid colors will help bring life to the campus in hopes of sparking joy in the student body. We know school can be hard and frustrating, but hopefully it wil lbe livened up.”
Part of the Student Council’s positive vibes committee mission is to find ways to liven up the campus, for example, with sticky notes on lockers, Week of Respect, or other ways that bring students together.
“My committee needed to brainstorm ideas and look for ways to spread positive vibes throughout the school,” Gehlen said. “While scrolling through different activities, we landed on painted rocks, and we thought it would be cute to place them around the school.”
The rocks will be distributed today and will remain on display until the end of the year.
“It takes about two class work days,” Gehlen said. “We’ve been brainstorming fun ideas and painting the base coat for the first day, and then for the second day we’ve been actually putting on the sayings. I think the sayings are pretty positive and students are going to like seeing them around.”
Some Student Council members hope that this will make students feel seen, appreciated and cared for.
“I think that the kindness rocks are going to help us show students that they’re not alone,” junior Hannah Segura said. “I know it’s just a painted rock, but I really think that students are going to like them. It’s a cute idea, and it helps to bring us together as a student community, which is really our goal as Student Council members.”
