Announced at last week’s Movie Night, the homecoming theme will be ‘Venetian Nights,’ inspired by Venice, Italy. The concept aligns with Student Council’s overall theme for the year which is “Travel.”
Leading up to the dance and football game, StuCo will be hosting a spirit week.
“I think it’s just going to create a lot of hype around the actual event,” first Student Body Vice President Ava Kamman said. “The spirit week is really where we play into the theme leading up to homecoming and the theme is really brought to life.”
As tradition, homecoming will include amenities for all who attend.
“We’re going to have our photo booth and the 360 camera,” Kamman said. “Food from Culinary, which is going to be really good because that also goes with [the] theme, which I’m excited about, and we’re going to have a really good DJ.”
The menu that StuCo and Culinary created includes Oreo cookies, red velvet cookies, brownies, butterscotch blondies, cacio e pepe scones and savory garlic muffins.
“They provided the food two years ago, and we wanted them to provide it last year, but there was an issue that prevented that from happening,” Kamman said. “Since they were not able to do it last year, we are so excited for what they will make this year… we wanted to create a balance between sweet and savory foods, and we hope that students will love the menu.”
StuCo is also taking extra steps to ensure the event is a success.
“No matter what event, we always try to take in student feedback,” Kamman said. “The biggest thing is always just making sure that we work with people like [those from the] photo booth and the DJ that take in the student feedback. We want the experience to be for the students.”
For junior Ava Baker, she believes that this homecoming theme feels just right for teenagers.
“I personally love it,” Baker said. “It feels actually age accurate and not [childlike] or overdone like a lot of themes have been. I also think it gives people the opportunity to interpret it however they want and it broadens the creativity window to so many different things instead of something very direct and specific.”
Junior Joshua Hidalgo shares what he is looking forward to for the night.
“I’m excited to hang out with my friends,” junior Joshua Hidalgo said. “We’re planning to get dinner beforehand and just have a chill night.”
Kamman provides her best advice for students who are on the fence about attending.
“I would say to just go,” Kamman said. “If dances aren’t really your thing, all you can do is try and buy at the cheapest price. Then just try and go. If you realize it’s not your thing, then you know for sure it’s not. You know you at least tried to go, but you never know if you don’t try.”
