Club Preview: A look into the week of Jan. 8

HOSA, Filipino Club, and BSU meet this week

HOSA, 2nd and 4th Tuesdays

Advisers: Cynthia Wong and Cassandra Trummel

Room: Cafeteria

HOSA plans to resume their normal duties and provide important information for upcoming events.

“We’ll begin with a welcome into the New Year and inform our members regarding volunteer opportunities, including our blood drive on January 19,” President Aeron Pearson said.

The club looks forward to new developments after the first meeting.

“New things that I hope to see throughout this semester is community engagement,” Pearson said. “Such as an alumni meeting, as well as meetings with healthcare professionals.”

Filipino Club, 2nd and 4th Wednesdays

Adviser: Richard Mercado

Room: D101

To start off the new semester, the club prepares to discuss preparations for the coming months and next school year.

“We’re probably going to be discussing officer elections for next year as well as future event plans,” Vice President Josh Burgos. “We saw how big of a hit karaoke was at Winterfest so we want to replicate that in our future karaoke event.”

The club plans to put a twist on a typical karaoke event.

“It’s going to be a fundraiser type of thing,” Burgos said. “It’ll be more of a competition with either an overall judging system with the audience or with teachers as judges, so we’re going to work that out. I’m not sure exactly when we’ll do it, but hopefully in the next couple of months.”

Following their successful Winterfest event, BSU gears up to have their first general meeting of the semester.

“At our meeting we’re going to be discussing all of our upcoming plans,” President Philipos Alebachew said. “We’re going to be having a lot of fundraisers, events, and a spirit week this semester, so we have to inform our members about that.”

As Black History Month approaches, the club is preparing for activities and school-wide events.

“We’re going to be selling canes again in addition to other ideas we have,” Alebachew said. “We want to have a black history spirit week, a luncheon, various guest speakers, and a DJ coming in to play during lunch.”
