Speech and Debate members had an after school potluck celebrating their hard work. In a few weeks, students will perform in front of faculty members in a showcase.
Standing outside, sophomores Aicha Sama, Ignacio Parra Parra, Jennifer Shelley and freshman Donovan Fujii wait for their food to be delivered. Students ordered food from Postmates and had it delivered after school. “I didn’t think there would be so much food and people would bring so much,” Sama said. “I brought home a lot of food because people left without it, so I saw my chance to get extras.” Photo Credit: Grinesa Bajrami
While eating their meals, sophomores Jennifer Shelley and Ignacio Parra Parra look at their social media. On Google Classroom, students signed up, stating what they would bring. “We were the last ones to eat because we were waiting for postmates to deliver us the Raising Cane’s,” Shelley said. “When we got there we prayed people didn’t eat all the food.” Photo Credit: Grinesa Bajrami
After eating their first meal, sophomores Alexis Apple and Kendall Cain talk about their classes. Only Speech and Debate members were allowed to attend the potluck. “Personally, I think we talked more than we ate,” Cain said. “The sophomore class made a circle in the front of the room and we just played games for most the time.” Photo Credit: Grinesa Bajrami
Getting a second serving, freshman Donovan Fujii grabs a helping of fries. Students stated their allergies before people could sign up for food. “I was glad that we had a break from all the work we do in the club,” Fujii said. "The next few weeks are going to be extremely stressful with our showcase, so we all needed this fun break." Photo Credit: Grinesa Bajrami
While telling a story, juniors Brittny Mikhaiel and Elizabella Phantharangsy enjoy their meals. The potluck allowed students to celebrate their hard work in the club. “Today marks the first Speech and Debate potluck,” Mikhaeil said. “Everyone pitched in with the food, including Mr. Castillo, who brought Canes. It’s a time for the Speech and Debate team to relax from the writing and the practicing and simply spend time with one another as a family.“ Photo Credit: Grinesa Bajrami
