After seeing the success of the Freshman Thursday event last year, the Student Council decided to plan a similar bonding event for the sophomore class.
The event is scheduled for today, on the field, from 2-4 p.m. after school.
“We have planned for Kona Ice, water games, and a nice picnic environment so people can enjoy [it],” sophomore Student Council Vice President Jarred Garcia said. “We’re hoping people can gather around and make new friends”.
The main purpose of this event is to increase bonding within the sophomore class.
“Our goal with this event is to get sophomores to socialize with each other,” sophomore Student Council Treasurer Carter Sims said. “[It is] important that we are able to connect as a group because there’s [about], 400 of us. The more we socialize with each other, the better we are able to get [along].”
The 2027 Student Council class is taking a new approach to the Sophomore Picnic to differentiate it from other social events.
“This is gonna be completely different [from freshman Thursday],” Garcia said. “Since it’s outside instead of being in the gym, I feel like there are a lot [more] things that we can do [like] volleyball, using the basketball courts and water games.”
Anticipation for the event has been growing among students such as sophomore Allison Ganir who has high hopes for the picnic.
“It seems like fun and a way to get involved with school events,” Ganir said. “I don’t go to that many events except for some of the major ones. It looks like fun because all [the] sophomores come together. It’s not the whole school, so it’s not gonna be crowded.”
The sophomore Student Council class has been planning the event for over a month.
“[Student Council] has a lot of good activities planned like games and surprises,” sophomore Student Council adviser Pier Shoates said. “They came up with it during one of their meetings [by putting] their heads together, [as they] wanted to come up with something different and really fun. They are doing a lot of advertising, [with] announcements, and posters, to get the word out so as many people as possible come. The more the merrier.”
