 In this Filipino Club meeting, freshman Aibreen Tulio-Quiambao is guessing the word on top of his head. This was part of a game to learn words from a Filipino dialect. “You are given a word in English and you have to try to say it in Tagalog, which is Filipino dialect,” Tulio-Quiambao said. “It was fun and Filipino Club has been really nice. It feels good to have a club where I can share my culture.”

“We have a lot of different concepts for our meetings,” Meteorology Association president Brian Price said. “We have much more experience and use more experiments now, so it’s really interactive. We have a lot we’re looking forward to.”

Handing out certificates to Key Club members, President Ella Abliar congratulates each member that successfully fulfilled their service hour requirement. In order to become an inducted member of the club, members have to complete the service activities to earn their required 50 hours. “I was honored to pass out these awards to all these members who are exceptionally hard-working students that truly showcased the embodiment of Key Club,” Abliar said. “I was happy to see people having fun and showing off the hard work they put in, and my board also did amazing; they helped out a lot, and it made me extremely happy to see that they were just as passionate as everyone else.”

Participating in a Splatoon competition, sophomore Jian Arceo strategically makes his way to the opposing team. Competitive Gaming Club members are able to work in teams and communicate the best strategies to win different competitions. “I felt confident that we were going to win,” Arceo said. “Being able to communicate with teammates was a positive, and I felt we were pretty well coordinated throughout the entire game.”

“The haunted house required us to do special effects makeup,” president Zoey Ching said. “Our members really enjoyed this. I hope we can get that much excitement for our upcoming performance, but I’m hopeful since members have expressed desire previously.”

Skills USA prepares for state, NHS allows members to unwind, Drama Club hosts auditions
Attracting customers, FBLA Parliamentarian Arcade Encarnacion advertises the club’s hotdog stand at Winterfest. The club sold hotdogs and soda, making around $70 total. “Our club president decided to borrow a costume from her friend, and I was appointed as the hotdog mascot,” Encarnacion said. “It was kind of slow, but then I had this wonderful idea of going up to people and saying that I would dance for them if they bought a hotdog from our stand.”

Ensuring safe hygiene, treasurer Gia Naguiat assists in distributing cookies at the beginning of a NHS meeting. Hand sanitizer was required because the cookies weren’t individually wrapped. “Admittedly, the snacks we serve our members aren’t always the same and we do put thought into it,” Naguiat said. “It may be a small gesture, but especially after school it’s always nice to have a small treat after a long day.”

Teaching about Freud’s Dream Theory, Secretary Ella Mengistu presents information to the Psychology Club members. The club’s focus and topics are changed each week. “Our meeting that week was about dreams and dream interpretations,” Mengistu said. “Freud’s Dream Theory states that our dreams confirm our inner desires and that it’s what we want in our conscious mind. We wanted club members to have a better understanding of dreams and have a new perspective on what they may mean.”

Testing out colored pencils, sophomores Joy Ryan and Joy Park color in their illustrations. Members of Key Club were tasked with helping create decorations and donate candy for the school’s Trunk or Treat event for the opportunity to gain service hours. “I thought that my decorations turned out really cute and I felt proud knowing that they were going to use something I made during the event,” sophomore Joy Park said, “It was so much fun spending time with friends and coming up with scenarios about our drawings.”
