With 22 performers, K-Pop Club will be dancing at the PA vs. DA halftime show with their largest group on Friday, Oct. 12.
“I feel that [K-Pop Club] will do an amazing job in putting on a halftime show,” freshman Masina Blackwell said. “This will be my first time performing in front a lot of people, especially for a halftime show, and knowing that this is the [largest number of performers K-pop Club has had] is pretty exciting.”
Aside from K-Pop Club, Poly will also be performing and a homecoming court relay will take place during halftime.
“[I’m running for homecoming court and participating in the football game] because it’s my senior year,” senior Xzavier Flores said. “[My advice for first-time players] to just try to have fun. We don’t have sports here, so when there is competition and school spirit, it’s best to enjoy it when you can.”
Practices for the flag football game will be held on Oct. 4, 5, 8, 9 and 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. Waivers can be picked up from the Student Activities office, StuCo adviser Ms. Miriya Julian, AP Statistics teacher Mr. Bryce Wada, English 11 teacher Ms. Laura Penrod and Chemistry teacher Ms. Christina Bousema before Oct. 2.
“This is my last year in high school and I want to go to every event I can,” senior Isaiah Rogado said. “It’s my first time doing the game and my adrenaline is rushing just thinking about PA vs. DA.”
The Physical Education department will be coaching the teams and refereeing the game.
“Clark County School District requires coaching cards for anyone who is in charge of organized sports, [which is why the PE teachers will be mentoring],” Julian said. “[Those who aren’t participating] can buy concessions, spend time with friends and our student DJ will be playing some music.”
Clubs and other school organizations will be selling food such as spam musubi and soda. Students are allowed to bring blankets and umbrellas to the event.
“It is always exciting to see people supporting their academy and seeing who will win,” junior Jaden Dickson said. “I am looking forward to the performances, as well as selling boba–it’s always [a fun experience].”
The annual Homecoming Dance takes place on Oct. 13 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and tickets will go on-sale starting Oct. 3. The location and theme of the dance will be announced later in the week.
“[PA vs. DA] is a nice time to hang out, enjoy the sun and have a fun day,” Julian said. “I’m not a football expert and don’t really know anything about it, even less about flag football. I just like the event because the whole school comes together and it’s something that is uniquely Southwest.”
