Fashion Students to Round Two - Fashion Forward Competition

Club Preview: A Look into Jan. 13

DECA, FIDM, Academic WorldQuest

DECA, 2nd and 4th Tuesday, Library

To allow members to understand how state works, DECA members will be doing mock-interviews.

“The roleplay helps the competitors use critical thinking and [to come] up with solutions to complex problems,” DECA President Jocelyn Miller said. “During the competition, they basically get the topic 15 minutes before meeting with the judge, so it’s a good way to prepare.”

Board members will be pretending to be the judges, while the remaining members are interviewed. DECA members will be going to state from Feb. 9-11.

“It’s very similar to when someone interviews for a job, so the skills learned for this competition could be used when trying to get a job,” Miller said.

FIDM Fashion Club, 1st and 3rd Thursday, E-106

The FIDM Fashion Club has been working on branding for their collections and will continue working on them next meeting.

“My collection is, for lack of better words, coming along,” FIDM Co-President Cyncir Pollard said. “I really need to make it more cohesive and add more wow factors. When I look at it now, I feel like I have nothing profound to say, but that’s the best part.”

Along with working on their collections, senior members will be finishing their portfolios and applications for the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, due on Jan. 15.

“For the rest of the club, I feel a lot of us will do well,” Pollard said. “You can’t always be sure on everyone because you haven’t seen their work ethic, but the majority will do well.”

Academic WorldQuest, Every Thursday, E-132

Researching specific topics as a group, members will be preparing for WorldQuest on Feb. 8th.

“Our goal is to make sure we have a great understanding of each topic and how it’s relevant to current events that are occurring today,” Academic WorldQuest member Samer Youssouf said. “This way, we can compete to the best of our abilities and hopefully win at state.”

The topic members will be focusing on learning next meeting is “Country in Focus: South Korea.”

“I feel like there is so much information that I really need to study,” Youssouf said. “By the time the competition arrives, I will be prepared and I think I will do well in supporting my team. I’m prepared to help my team because you win as a team not as a school.”
