Staying Moisturized In Winter By Madison Land

Fall is here, which means that winter is approaching and the cold days are upon us. The cold weather is known for drying out our skin and leaving us dry and dehydrated. Try out these helpful tips and reminders to enhance your daily skincare routine.

Avoid Taking Long Hot Baths/Showers

Long hot showers/baths feel great after a long winter day at school, work, or after school activities. But hot water can actually severely dry out your skin and strip all the moisture from it, which is the opposite of what we want. Taking lukewarm showers or short hot ones will ensure that you won't come out dry and have to use half a bottle of lotion to get that moisture back.

Drink More Water

Drinking more water will help in hydrating your skin from the inside. So after every cup of hot cocoa, get yourself a glass of water to wash it down and try to drink water with every meal as well.

Wear Sunscreen

Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean the sun isn't affecting your skin. You are still going to be exposed to UV rays so make sure to keep sunscreen in your skincare routine to not only keep moisture, but also to prevent dark spots as well.

Get A Humidifier

Invest in a humidifier as it will add moisture to the dry winter air in your home, and keep your skin hydrated. Run a humidifier in the rooms of your house that you occupy the most, especially your bedroom. You can find humidifiers at TJ MAXX, Ross, even local thrift shops.

Turn Down Your Thermostat

What's the first thing that comes to mind when it's cold outside? Increase the heat! However, that can make your home's air drier. To preserve healthy skin, set the thermostat to a chilly yet pleasant temperature of 68°F to 72°F.
