Juniors and seniors can now purchase tickets for prom, which will be held at IPEC Las Vegas on April 25 from 6–9 p.m., with tickets available before and after school and during lunch.
“StuCo first came up with the idea back in September, and it’s been a long process,” Class of 2027 President Carter Sims said. “We waited for the venue to be approved and wanted a theme that matched it. Based on the colors and ideas we’d seen from past proms around the state, we decided a Hollywood theme would work best.”
StuCo handled choices like color schemes, décor, and the theme. The committee is focused on behind-the-scenes logistics such as contracts, timelines, and ensuring their Hollywood theme fits the budget and venue rules.
“We plan to create personalized Hollywood Walk of Fame-style stars for Prom Court nominees, [which will be] placed on the ground or on a wall at the venue entrance,” Sims said. “Nominees can take their star home as a keepsake, which will help bring the Hollywood theme and energy to life.”
To plan the event, StuCo members looked at photos of real Hollywood premieres and award shows, paying attention to small details like the entrance, lighting, and backdrops, which served as inspiration for the event.
“We hope students will remember the fun they had, bonding with their friends, their classmates, and having a night where they can let it all out, not having to worry about what other people think,” Sims said. “It’s a very large venue for a reason, and this allows students to have space, along with bringing in a large population of our student body. Our limit this year for tickets is 500.”
When StuCo toured potential venues, they had to consider how the atmosphere would be presented in photos. They walked through where students would line up, determined how easy it would be to move between the dance floor and tables, and whether there was enough room for students to sit, talk, and take pictures without feeling packed in.
“My favorite part of the prom venue would probably be the size,” senior Alaina Getu said. “It seems very spacious, which will be amazing for dancing. I also really like the stairs, and I think they could work with it and make it fit the theme so well. The overall interior architecture is very aesthetic and will be great for pictures.”
While planning, StuCo is focusing on decorating the venue to fit the planned theme.
“One thing I hope to see that would really bring the theme to life is a 1920s theme,” Getu said. “Anything that screams old money Hollywood could make the night really enjoyable. [Things like a] red carpet, pearls, and glamorous feather decorations would pull everything together.”
With the planning for prom having spanned many months, StuCo is excited for the student body to attend the event and see their reactions to the theme and venue.
“I hope that everybody stays safe and has a great time,” Class of 2027 StuCo adviser Pier Shoates said. “I hope it’s very memorable, especially for the seniors … it’s like something that you can look back on. Even teachers can always look back and say, ‘Oh, I remember my prom’. So I hope this is a very memorable experience for them.”
