Just for Today

Let us just say, that just for today, everything was perfect. No stress, no work to do, and absolutely no care in the world. You could even say that money is not an issue, there are no limits to when you need to come home, and you do not even have to abide by the rules. What would you do?

Recently, I have been noticing that there are a lot of people, me included, that are too focused on the future. Where they are going to be when they graduate, how they will obtain a job after high school, what college they are going to go to, and blah, blah, blah. Although I have to admit that I have been thinking a lot about the future, today I just want to live this day and this day only.

What I said might just be a little confusing for some of you, so let me tell you bluntly. Simply, I want to take one day out of my life and live that day without worries of the past or future. No thoughts of college, work, drama, or any of those typically unenjoyable aspects of living a senior life.

Unfortunately, this article is not meant to be talking about me; I know, sad right? Instead, I want to simply encourage the seniors of our school, and even lower grade levels, if you really feel that you are too busy with life, to, just for one day, live like there was nothing on your agenda.

Go out, ride a bike, go for a swim, lounge around on the couch, or even try something completely new like learning how to cook, or even piercing your ears (just don’t break the law or hurt yourself). It could be anything, just have fun while you are doing it. As a senior myself, I understand how much is on your plate, and that is why I am writing about this obvious, yet seemingly overlooked aspect of life called “taking a break from work and stop stressing out so much, nerd.”

One day will not hurt you. One day out of the 365 days of the year will definitely not stop you from graduating or even stop you from pursuing your dreams. It will give you time to cool yourself down from the busy life I know you all have.

However, I do want to emphasize one point to those who are ready to go off to college or start a new project. Be careful. After you have taken one day to worry about nothing, the next day, you are back in the real world where society will throw you into the middle of the ocean and watch you sink or swim.

So, for the love of everything that is good, go take a break. You spending countless hours working on homework and applying for colleges is even stressing me out. So do me a favor, have some fun and make sure you do not have a mental breakdown during your high school life. Just for today, enjoy yourself, and try not to do anything foolish! Have fun!
