Placing coffee filters over their contraption, junior Dominic Jackson is using the filter to eliminate the larger particles in the water. Their goal is to win the class competition of who has the cleanest water. “I feel like my group and I did very well at filtering out our water to make it cleaner,” Jackson said. “The only thing is our water was still oily, but I think the coffee filters helped us to get the larger pieces out of our water. Even though my group did not win I think we still did well.”

Rotating to each station of the gallery walk, junior Noah Ly answers each group’s essential question on a sticky note and places it on the different posters. Each rotation allowed time for group discussion and note-taking. “The class learned to tell the difference between asepsis types, and my group’s focus was teaching others about surgical asepsis and how to keep a clean environment when it comes to bacteria and organisms,” Ly said.

Listening and watching closely to Dr.Breslin’s instruction, junior Iris Kellett prepares to follow her directional guide through to the inside of the cat’s body. The majority of students struggle to ease their emotions, while others see it as a part of strictly scientific procedures. “The cat’s dead already so I’m not very emotional,” Kellett said. “Plus, the teacher is carrying us through the whole process.”

Preparing to bathe their “patient,” junior Christine Wu is working on providing the best care for their future patients. Wong was trying to get a time of 20 minutes or less to finish a bed bath skill on the mannequin. “There are definitely skills I am better at, but I think for all of them you just need to practice,” Wu said. “I feel pretty good about the nursing exam. Ms. Trummel explains well why each skill is important and stresses why it's important for the test and real life.”

Pulling from real world inspirations, sophomore Elenarose Telona thinks up new concepts for a society. Telona and her teammates decided to reference their own ethnicities, which made their civilization more personal to them. “Right now we're brainstorming ideas,” Telona said. “One of us is Peruvian, one Incas, and I'm Filipino, so we named it Phillinca. Then another thing was to find a middle ground where we could place our civilization, so we made it an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. So we're thinking of things that already exist and adding them into our civilization.”

Brainstorming new mechanics for the game “Witches and Ditches,” sophomore Ayden Ionescu suggests adding a trial system. Before testing, players cast spells at random, hoping to uncover the witch. “Testing is beneficial for most games,” Ionescu said. “You can point out all the flaws for a video game. For example, bugs may be a problem for the gameplay and its balance.”

Beginning the new unit in 3D animation, students are tasked with animating a flour sack— the same exercise as Animation I, but in 3D rather than 2D. However, some students like sophomore Rayan Awad dislike the change in dimensions. “2D animation is so much easier to do, I think it looks better, I'm just more comfortable with it,” Awad said. “With 3D, you don't have to redraw everything and you just have a rig and it's really easy to deal with. But 2d animation, it feels like you put more effort into it feels more rewarding.”
