As they approach the end of quarter one, students are working on their first project of the year in Jennifer Conder’s chemistry class. With their partner, they will be making video presentations on a specific element from the periodic table.

“It is a lot better working in-person, and easier to communicate with my partners,” sophomore Madison Davis said. “Plus, I just like being in-person better than online.”

With the option to use digital resources like Powtoon and Adobe Spark, the students also have the ability to share ideas with one another and collaborate. Students are also required to include a voice-over and stay within a four-minute time limit.

“My partner and I are able to create our presentation how we like, and use designs and characters to make it more exciting,” sophomore Isabella Ong said. “There were also multiple softwares we could use, so we just found one we liked.”

Students are putting together their presentations to share with the class and writing notes to assist in prepping for the recitation of their videos.

“We are currently building up scripts to help us prepare what we will say when we record,” sophomore Victoria Munoz said. “[They] overall help us stay more organized and prepared.”

Projects will be due on September 23 and will help students gain an overall better understanding on elements.

“I hope students are able to grasp basic information that we will use later in unit three,” Conder said. “And to understand just how important all these elements are.”
