Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), Second and Fourth Tuesdays
Adviser: Tiffany Stemmerik, Melony Thompson
Room: Cafeteria
HOSA will host a workshop for members to be able to prepare for their State Leadership Conference (SLC).
“We will have our SLC workshop meeting for those who are interested,” President-Elect Aldrich Razon said. “This meeting will be finalizing the event choices for the members wanting to go [to SLC] and will also be done into our Regional Festival, which is happening sometime in January to December.”
Participants will be guided by members of the board who have previously taken part in the competition, sharing their experiences and expertise.
“All of us on the board are giving them our personal insights of what happens and we’re also encouraging them to look at the guidelines,” Razon said. “I’m really excited for this meeting to keep preparing. My first year was so fun and it’ll be nice going again and having more people.”
National Honor Society (NHS), First and Third Wednesdays
Adviser: Laura Penrod
Room: Cafeteria
NHS will be explaining the annual fundraiser to its members, followed by an activity for community service hours.
“We are going to have a speaker come in and explain [the fundraiser],” President Michael Haley said. “Afterward, NHS is partnering with the Feeding Futures Foundation (FFF) to package food items into bags and write notes to be handed out.”
Members are going to be tasked with raising $120 for the club using any means of fundraising, though an alternative fundraising option will be available for interested students.
“This year we are offering students the opportunity to raise this money without selling an item through InstaRaise,” Haley said. “They will still have the opportunity to sell an item if they can’t raise the money on their own. It will still be through an InstaRaise fundraising opportunity [which is] selling cookie dough.”
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), First and Third Thursdays
Adviser: Ronald Barranco
Room: Cafeteria
Members will be taught how to use FBLA.org to record community service hours and learn more about the events at the state competition.
“Next week, FBLA is going to go over how to navigate the FBLA website,” Executive Vice President Kaitlynn Mae Aguilar said. “We will also go over what members will possibly compete at our state competition. These events have various different topics, allowing members to pick what fits their interests.”
Members who are interested in competing will pick from a variety of events, with the club planning to hold practices and preparation sessions to help members throughout the year.
“They can pick events ranging from presentation to role play,” Aguilar said. “ The club itself will help everyone prepare by doing various checkups on everyone’s events. In addition, we will hold practices to let them attempt to present and we will ask them questions as if it were real.“
![Going in depth about a competition, HOSA Vice President Ryan Navaratte-Pak leads the meeting. This week, Pak will advise general members during a state conference workshop, alongside the rest of the board. “I would say it's a great opportunity for members,” Pak said. “I want to be there for them, especially if they have any issues or need guidance. SLC is a chance to take HOSA seriously and compete at the state level, [you can] test your limits and see where it might take you.”](https://southwestshadow.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/IMG_6706-1200x800.jpg)
