Black Student Union (BSU), Second and Fourth Thursdays
Advisers: Tracy Taylor and Larry Reed Jr.
Room: Cafeteria
BSU plans on preparing upcoming events for its general members, such as the BSU conference.
“[This conference] brings together all of the BSU chapters here in Las Vegas and offers members with a bunch of opportunities to expand their leadership, understanding and experience,” BSU Head of Talk Show John Pinili said. “The event will be held at Palo Verde High School and it’s just a fun time overall, so we want to ensure that all our members are aware of it and have the chance to go.”
To ensure attendance at the conference, BSU board members intend on reviewing club membership status.
“In order to attend this event however, members need to be active participants of BSU, so we will also be checking in with each member,” Pinili said. “It is to ensure that they have attended enough meetings and have enough service hours.”
Cyberpatriot, Every Second Wednesday
Adviser: Dana Cuni
Room: B209
After completing a four month competition season, Cyberpatriot will be hosting mini competitions for its members.
“We are working on a capture the flag challenge called Pico CTF,” Cyberpatriot Adviser Dana Cuni said. “It’s an annual challenge that we’ve done for three years in a row now, where we try to solve challenges and just get as many points as we can.”
With the end of the season, club members intend to look forward to what is next.
“We do other smaller cyber competitions, and then we plan to get our cyberpatriot teams established before the school year ends,” Cuni said. “With some wiggle room, we want freshmen to be able to join in the fall.”
National Honors Society (NHS), First and Third Wednesdays
Advisers: Laura Penrod
Room: Cafeteria
NHS will be presenting volunteering opportunities with organizations that they plan to work alongside with.
“Our goal is to help members get involved with community based service,” NHS Treasurer Elect Yara Ahmed said. “Our topic is hopefully Project150 as we have been in contact with them for a while. We realized as a board we want to have as many volunteer opportunities during the meetings and get more involvement with our members.”
On top of volunteering opportunities, NHS is in the process of preparing the induction ceremony by hosting a rehearsal beforehand and the official event the following day.
“NHS induction rehearsals are being held at the ballroom after school this Thursday, March 26. Our goal for our new inducted members is to not feel as nervous walking the stage and so the event can run smoothly,” Ahmed said. The official NHS induction ceremony is this Friday, March 27, starting at around 5-5:30 p.m. We allow new inducted members to bring two people to this event, which can be parents and siblings.”
