Filipino Club will start to educate its members about the culture and traditions of the Philippines.
“For our upcoming meetings, we want to focus more on bringing a lot more cultural events and cultural education to the club,” club president Tyler Moran said. “We want to do things like tinikling and collaborate with other clubs on campus, as well as outside our school.”
The club is looking to promote culture and expand participation beyond just its core members.
“We definitely want to do more meetings and activities apart from just the regular ones,” Moran said. “[We want to] open that interest up to other members as well. We don’t just want to limit opportunities to our board members. We want to make sure everyone within our club, even if they’re not Filipino, feels involved and can experience the culture of the Philippines.”

FBLA will start discussing this year’s State Leadership Conference, as members will start looking at events to participate in.
“We want all of our members to feel confident,” club president Isabella Reyes said. “If they’re planning the state conference, [we want to] make sure they are selecting the competitions that are right for them.”
The club hopes the early planning will give members more time to practice and refine their specific skills before the conference.
“Every year, our chapter has struggled with placing compared to other schools and this year we would definitely like to increase the amount of competition involvement and success we have,” Reyes said. “By starting early and targeting areas where students may fall weaker, we can promote success and engagement.”

SkillsUSA members will rehearse and prepare for an upcoming competition.
“Our plan for the next meeting is to practice a mock competition and get some studying on the framework of SkillsUSA,” club president Joyce Harveston said. ”We really want our members to be prepared for our State Leadership Conference in the beginning of April. We just want to start now because that way we have an idea of who wants to participate and who doesn’t.”
The conference will be held in April at the ROW’s ballroom in Reno.
“From the past years, we usually start preparing around January, but this year we actually started in September,” Harveston said. “We wanted members to get a feel for the competition. In the past, it was always a really big struggle because not everybody feels prepared or we were rushing to get something done. It’s really important that you have that readiness before going to state.”
